The Value of Greeting in Manggarain Culture

The idea of Reis, Ruis, Raes and Raos in Manggaraian philosophy is the produt of Greeting. Greeting is so powerful that Manggarain people demand your greeting rather than any other things, when one visits a house.

In Manggarai, when someone, enters a house be it just visiting or has a purpose, one things he first demand from the host is their greeting; the greeting of the house owner. Greeting is a sign that you welcome the person wholeheartedly.

The idea of Reis, Ruis, Raes and Raes, explaine the procces of what Martin Buber called “I-Thou” relationship.
